Congratulations once more to all U15 and U13 athletes successful at our recent trials and selected for next season's Pathway programme commencing in September.
It must be said, this was a tough day at the office for any athlete with an extremely high standard among the 120 who attended over the course of the weekend. While those who made it through to our Academy should be very proud of all they have achieved, equally, those not as fortunate on the day can hold their heads high as this was by no means an easy task.
To date, forty-six athletes have been named for the U15 group and twenty-two for the U13 group, all split into two sub-groups that will train in the region's north or south. Each athlete is also granted an automatic place on their individual County squads as part of the Rhinos' Pathway programme for Yorkshire and the Humber. More places may become available to regional athletes once the season is underway, with the Rhinos programme a fluid one and coaches continually on the look-out for talent.
Pathway Head Coach, Emily Perry, said:
"We were delighted to receive well over 100 nominations through our hubs and County Academies for trials this year. The quality was high and with a limited number of places available, there were some tough decisions for the selectors to make although we are pleased with the results and can see plenty of opportunity for strength and depth throughout the Pathway.
"We're looking forward to working with the players from September and supporting them with developing the skills and attributes for performance netball, through a programme that combines strength and conditioning, skills coaching, match play opportunities and education."
Athletes who were not successful on this occasion who wish to train with the Rhinos from September, and are in age, are encouraged to try out for one of several hubs running across the region. Full details for next season's hub venues, training dates and eligibility will become available over the coming weeks.
Rhinos will also announce details of its U19 and U17 Elite and Futures Academy trials in September in July.
