Leeds Rhinos Netball recently announced it's competition squad ahead of this season's Netball Performance League fixtures which kick off after the Christmas break in January.
From a long squad of 20-plus athletes who have been training every Monday and Wednesday evening since September at Woodhouse Grove School in north Leeds, the senior coaching team has selected 12 into the competition squad with a view to more joining those named last month as successful should the need arise through the season.
Head Pathway Coach, Emily Perry, had this to say on the process and competition to come:
"The U19 squad has been working hard over the past few months on fitness, skills and game understanding. We have tested ourselves in training and in tough games against Thunder and Northern Titans. The squad of 12 selected has shown solid levels of fitness and skill as well as demonstrating combinations that are gelling well. There are still 3 spaces open in the squad and we will continue to assess the progress of the long squad where there is tough competition. The players are thriving under this competition and we're feeling positive about the direction that we're heading in."
Rhinos' Director for Netball, Anna Carter, added:
"This is very much a new group with lots of potential to build and grow as the season progresses. I am very excited to see their journey with many of them playing for Leeds Rhinos and at NPL for the first time! Good luck to all athletes and coaches."
