On April 4, Leeds Rhinos Netball broadcast its first-ever live training session for its junior netballers on social media site, Facebook.
Featuring Rhinos' regular juniors coach, Chloe Smith, the live session ran for 40-minutes and included a warm-up, numerous ball skills and core-strengthening exercises designed to provide viewers with a home netball workout during the lockdown period.
The live session came off the back of a pre-recorded version released by Rhinos to its regular Mini Netball players - of which they currently have around 130 juniors aged 5-12 years - during the week prior. Featuring netball Director, Anna Carter, the half-hour session providing ball skills and tips on shooting proved successful, with over 600 views during its launch on YouTube and increasing to over 1,000 views since. On seeing the appetite for home training, Rhinos chose to open up its sessions wider and run them live on its most popular platform, Facebook, where there would be the opportunity to share the videos with other keen netballers more effectively.
Rhinos have since run a second session on Facebook, also deemed a success thanks to 134 viewers following Chloe's session live; which is almost double the 74 viewers who tuned in for week one. Sessions will continue to run weekly at 9 am on Saturday mornings throughout April on Facebook Live, and are also available to view later on Rhino's YouTube channel.
